What is premium messaging?
Premium Text Messaging refers to special programs that require an additional fee to subscribe. Customer will be charged a premium rate for the subscription which is either billed to his postpaid mobile phone account or deducted from his pre-paid credit.
Premium Text subscriptions are initiated through special numbers, which are 5 digit numbers called ‘Short Codes’,
Examples of Premium Messaging services;
- Sports, business, finance and health and wellness alerts
- Weather alerts, jokes, stock quotes, horoscopes, etc.
- Mobile coupons
- Interactive Radio programs
- Interactive TV shows and voting
What is a Keyword?
Keywords are valid commands used to opt-in or opt-out of a Premium Text Messaging program. Keywords are sent within the message body and addressed to a particular short code. Examples are as follows:
How much will I be charged?
Premium Messages are charged at a premium rate compared to normal peer-to-peer SMS rates.
For subscription services:
- You may be charged based on the mobile originated( MO) request to subscribe to a daily, weekly or monthly subscription service, Or
- You may be charged based on the mobile terminated (MT) content pushed basis certain frequency.
The charges differ depending on each service type and category.
For On demand Service:
- TV, Radio, competitions and voting you will be charged based on “On-Demand: method. The moment you send a message to the corresponding short code is the time you will be charged for the same message- no recurrent charges.
How can I activate or opt-in for a Premium Messaging Service?
Each service has its own activation or opt in command along with its corresponding short code.
You can activate this service by sending the command via SMS to the relevant short code of the service.
Example: SMS ON to 9xxxxx.

How can I deactivate or opt-out from a Premium Messaging Service?
Each service has its own de-activation or opt out command along with its corresponding short code.
You can deactivate this service by sending a command via SMS to the relevant short code of the service.
Example: SMS OFF to 9xxxxx.

You can subscribe to messaging services by sending the subscription keyword to the corresponding short code.
You can subscribe to messaging services by sending the unsubscription keyword to the corresponding short code.
The service charge varies from one service to another depending on the subscription type and the type of service.
The frequency of content SMS purely depends on the type of service. For example: You will receive daily alerts for Weather service, whereas for a breaking news service, you will receive a SMS alert only when a breaking news
